July 19 – A Special Wish/Shoes and Clothes for Kids/Kids’ Book Bank
July 19, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
A representative from a Special Wish Foundation spoke with the cubs about the organization in a child-friendly way.
Caring Cubs supported Shoes and Clothes for Kids by bringing school supply donations of glue sticks, pencils or 24-packs of crayons to support their peers in kicking off the 2019-2020
school year confidently!
A Special Wish Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children under the age of 21 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening disorder. The Cleveland chapter has been open since 2013 and directly applies donations to Northeast Ohio children who qualify.
Our Cubs helped spread some comfort and cheer by decorating and putting together busy bags for the children to play with during their hospital stays, as well as assembling fleece blankets to cozy up their hospital beds.
Caring Cubs is proud to continue our annual tradition of collecting school supplies for Shoe and Clothes for Kids. We are collecting NEW glue sticks, pencils, and crayons (24 packs). Shoes and Clothes for Kids’ mission is to improve K-8 school attendance by eliminating lack of appropriate clothing, shoes and school supplies as barriers. Shoes and Clothes for Kids (SC4K) is the only non-profit organization in Greater Cleveland providing new shoes, school uniforms, clothes and school supplies throughout the year at no charge to thousands of children in need. Through our programs we help improve school attendance, in some cases up to 24%.
Cleveland Kids in Need (CKIN) is a program of Shoes and Clothes for Kids, that helps to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies to teachers of the students who are most in need. CKIN is one of 40 affiliates of the national Kids in Need Foundation. Thanks to this relationship, additional school supplies get into more students and teachers’ classrooms more quickly. Because our Cubs are so generous, they will also be decorating bookmarks to be distributed by the Cleveland Book Bank, who strives to foster improved literacy and a love of reading by providing free books to children in need. Since the Kids’ Book Bank inception on March 1, 2016, they have distributed more than 1,000,000 books to low-income families who would not normally have access to books for their children!
