The Caring Mail Project – Spreading Cheer to Seniors

April 2, 2020 - April 8, 2020

Research shows that performing kind and helpful acts calms the mind. By releasing “good” brain chemicals to counteract and soothe the “stress” ones, altruism works to buffer our systems during anxious times. We believe wholeheartedly that being a caring community member is one of the best ways to cope with the uncertainties that abound. We hope that doing this project together as a family, from your home, will help buoy you through this time.

THE CARING MAIL PROJECT
A home-based service project series for families

Spreading Cheer to Seniors
During this stay-at-home time, cubs and their families will spread cheer to seniors who are not allowed to have visitors right now. Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging is a 110-year old Cleveland-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance support for older adults and caregivers. Benjamin Rose deepens the understanding of evolving needs, developing and delivering innovative, high-quality solutions and promoting effective public policies. Their centers serve 800 older adult clients and the number continues to grow as the community adjusts to the current stay-at-home order. When senior day centers were closed, Benjamin Rose staff rapidly transitioned congregate meals to home-delivered. Our goal is to make cards to accompany as many meals as possible!
