October 2017 Arden Courts

Caring Cubs visited both the Westlake and Chagrin Falls locations of Arden Courts to make some adorable (and creative) Halloween crafts! Our cubs had such wonderful interaction with the residents and together they created over 100 decorations, which we distributed throughout each home. We were also treated to cookies and juice, which was a welcome surprise! Thanks to Arden Courts for being such kind hosts once again.

September 2017 Christopher’s Promise

Caring Cubs worked to support the the promise our friend Lauren made to Christopher years ago – that all kids, regardless of physical limitations, can enjoy riding a bike. We met up with Lauren, founder of the non-profit Christopher’s Promise, and Christopher himself, along with his family, to create special stationary for bike recipients to use when thanking sponsors that help build their adaptive bike. These cards will go to stakeholders in Ohio, Oregon, California, and beyond. Find out more about Lauren and Christopher at www.christopherspromise.org.

August 2017 School Supply Drive

We had a great turnout at our pop-up project at Ben & Jerry’s! Caring Cubs families amassed a large amount of supplies for Cleveland Kids In Need, a program of Shoes & Clothes for Kids. The grand totals: 230 folders, 2 binders, 1 eraser pack, 82 pens, 12 glue sticks, 3 scissors, 96 crayon boxes, 35 construction paper packs, 52 composition notebooks, and 149 spiral notebooks.

Families also worked together to make 53 friendship messages that will be included in back-to-school packages distributed by Shoes & Clothes for Kids.

There was a whole lot of ice cream eaten, too! Thanks to Ben & Jerry’s of University Heights for hosting us and for your generous donation from the proceeds this afternoon. We are so grateful!

June 2017 Rescue Village

Caring Cubs had an amazing afternoon at Rescue Village! We received a tour of the facility, which included a barn and indoor facilities for companion animals. The kids got to see chickens, roosters, pigs, and sheep, as well as lots of sweet dogs and cats! We made 15 blankets for the shelter’s residents and also worked on items for our “grow” theme for our Appletree window display in July!

May 2017 Berea-Midpark High School

The Caring Cubs board spent a beautiful morning planting, mulching and weeding at the amazing Berea-Midpark High School gardens! It is rare that our entire board can be together with our families to share in the hard work we do for Caring Cubs! And the kids certainly didn’t mind getting dirty, finding worms, drawing chalk masterpieces, creating natural crowns, and even reading the Lorax! A special thanks to Mary Draves for hosting yet another wonderful day!

April 2017 Cleveland Metroparks

Caring Cubs continued the tradition of celebrating Earth Day at the Cleveland Metroparks. A small, but determined group of Caring Cubs volunteers picked up litter, pulled weeds, raked, and cleaned up sticks at Center Park in the West Creek Reservation. The Metroparks guide taught us about Earth Day, the Metroparks, and the history and development of Center Park. All of us learned something new! The cubs and their parents worked hard to clean up the park and ended the project with a hike to West Creek. Thank you to the Cleveland Metroparks for hosting Caring Cubs and thank you to the families who volunteered and made our Earth a little cleaner today!
