June 29 – Preserve our Urban Green Space – Nature Center at Shaker Lakes
Our Cubs beat the heat by heading into the woods and helping local plants thrive by pulling vinca vines. We learned that vinca aren’t “bad” plants, they just aren’t very good at sharing space with the other plants in the forest! We also learned about the amazing urban oasis that the Nature Center provides in the middle of our city. Nice job cubs!
June 19 – Caring for the Earth – Cleveland Metroparks A small but mighty group of Caring Cubs volunteers helped remove invasive mugwort from Cleveland Metroparks Watershed Stewardship Center in Parma. Our cubs pulled mugwort (some plants were taller than the cubs!) and helped give native plants room to grow. We filled 26 bags with mugwort! Each plant can contain up to 200,000 seeds…meaning that we helped remove MILLIONS of seeds this morning!
Caring Cubs made friendship cards for veterans to be distributed at Cleveland’s VA Medical Center. Thank you to all the Caring Cubs for their messages of thanks, kindness as well as the imaginative artwork! We made approximately 40 cards. A big thank you to Appletree Books for allowing us to use their space. Appletree also provided books for story time that centered around being kind and giving thanks.
Caring Cubs created spring-themed wreaths for residents of Malachi House to display on their doors. Malachi House serves people who are terminally ill, without regard to race, gender, religion or national origin and without cost to resident or family. Malachi House ministers to individuals who need a caregiver at the end of life, who have limited or no financial resources, and are in need of special home care in the final stages of life. The trained staff and volunteers provide spiritual, emotional and physical support with the assistance of a hospice team.
Caring Cubs and their families created place mats and cards for Mobile Meals of Summit County and decorated “Hungry Kate” pictures at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank yesterday. Cubs also donated 68lbs of food to the foodbank. Thank you to all who attended!
Caring Cubs spent a bright Sunday afternoon learning about upcycling and spreading joy to others. Our cubs joined forces with NCJW and BigHearted Blooms to decorate vases (brought from home) for recipients of repurposed flowers. Families also decorated notes of kindness to send with the flowers and vases. We ended our day by touring the sorting facility that NCJW uses for their thrift store Thriftique. Here our families learned about how our clothes are repurposed after we are finished with them. Thank you to everyone who joined us!!

79 Cubs and their grown-ups gathered today for our Festival of Caring. We sang songs, read stories, and played games teaching caring and kindness. Then we made gifts to share with others: cards for community helpers, cat toys and hot socks for animals in shelters, and puzzle sticks for seniors with dementia. Thanks for celebrating with us everyone!

Caring Cubs honored service members at our November volunteer project by decorating 328 holiday cards for local veterans and military families as well as collecting 435 new hats and gloves for the Cuyahoga County Division of Child and Family Services.

Our cubs spent a fall like day creating Halloween crafts with the residents at Arden Courts in Westlake, Parma, and Chagrin Falls! It was wonderful to be a part of this inter-generational experience. Everyone benefits from these great interactive activities! Thank you for your support of Caring Cubs and commitment to making a difference in our community!

Caring Cubs had such a beautiful day in the park! Our lucky Caring Cubs enjoyed some time outdoors, all the while learning about land and helping to clean it up! Thank you to all who attended and to CVNP for having us!
